Separating when your child has additional needs brings unique challenges. As a former teacher and pastoral lead, I help parents create arrangements that work for neurodivergent children — not just on paper, but in daily life.
Children with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences often struggle with:
When parents separate, these challenges are magnified. A parenting plan that ignores them can cause regression, anxiety, and behavioural difficulties that affect school, sleep, and wellbeing.
Discuss your child's needs and how mediation can work for your family.

My approach is practical and child-centred. During mediation, we address:
We look at what works now and how to maintain it across both homes. This might include consistent bedtimes, homework structures, screen-time rules, and meal patterns.
For children who find handovers difficult, we explore alternatives: longer stays with one parent to reduce transition frequency, neutral meeting points, or phased introductions to overnight stays.
We consider the physical environments at each home and whether adjustments are needed. We also think about transport — crowded buses or long car journeys can be dysregulating for some children.
Many SEND children struggle to communicate their needs directly. I help parents establish clear, non-confrontational ways to share information about medication, therapy appointments, school feedback, and behavioural changes.
If your child has an EHCP or is supported by speech therapists, occupational therapists, or CAMHS, we can discuss how these services continue across both homes and who coordinates appointments.
If you are applying to court for child arrangements, you will need a MIAM certificate for your C100 form. I can provide this, and we can also discuss whether mediation — with its focus on your child's specific needs — might help you avoid court altogether.
If you are separating and your child has additional needs, I would welcome a conversation about how mediation can work for your family.
