MIAM Certificate for C100 Form

If you are applying to court for a child arrangements order, you need a MIAM before submitting your C100. I provide fast, respectful MIAM appointments in Manchester and online — with certificates issued within 24 hours.

What Is a MIAM and Why Do I Need One?

A MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) is a private meeting between you and a qualified family mediator. It is not mediation itself. The purpose is to explain how mediation works, assess whether it is suitable for your situation, and explore whether you and the other parent could reach an agreement without going to court.

Most people must attend a MIAM before making a C100 application. There are limited exemptions — for example, in cases of domestic abuse or urgency — which we can discuss during your appointment.

How Quickly Can I Get My C100 MIAM Certificate?

I know that court deadlines do not wait. I aim to offer appointments within 48 hours, and your signed C100 MIAM certificate is usually issued within 24 hours of your session.

Same-day appointments may be available for urgent cases. If you have a looming deadline, please mention this when you get in touch and I will do my best to accommodate you.

What Happens If the Other Parent Refuses Mediation?

This is one of the most common concerns I hear. You do not need the other parent to attend a joint mediation session in order to receive your MIAM certificate. A sole MIAM — attended by you alone — is sufficient to satisfy the legal requirement.

During your sole MIAM, I will assess whether joint mediation might still be appropriate and, if so, invite the other parent to attend. If they decline or do not respond, I will sign your C100 form confirming that you have met your obligation, allowing you to proceed with your court application.

Can I Do My MIAM Online?

Yes. I offer online MIAM appointments via secure video call. Online MIAMs are fully valid for court applications and are often more convenient for parents juggling work and childcare. Of course, in-person appointments in Manchester are also available if you prefer.

What Happens During the MIAM?

Your MIAM will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes. We will discuss:

  • Your situation and what you hope to achieve
  • How family mediation works and whether it is suitable
  • The alternatives to court, including collaborative law and arbitration
  • Whether you qualify for Legal Aid (I can assess this during your appointment)
  • What happens next, whether you choose mediation or need your C100 certificate

The conversation is confidential, and there is no pressure to proceed with joint mediation unless you wish to.

MIAM Cost and Timescales

A sole MIAM is £100 per person. This includes your appointment and your signed C100 certificate. Joint mediation sessions, if you choose to proceed, are £180 per person per hour.

The £500 government Family Mediation Voucher is available for cases involving child arrangements and is applied automatically where eligible.
